Armenia celebrates Constitution Day on July 5. On this day in 1995, the draft of the country’s Basic Law was submitted to a nationwide referendum. The opposition at the time considered the referendum results falsified, but according to official data, the Constitution was adopted. It was the first Constitution of independent Armenia.
In accordance with the obligations undertaken to the Council of Europe, amendments were made to the Constitution in 2005 to expand the powers of the parliament.
According to the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated July 4, 2013, July 5 is celebrated not only as Constitution Day but also as State Symbols Day.
