From now on, only those Armenian citizens who permanently reside in Armenia 48 days before the elections—or 28 days in the case of snap elections—will be able to vote in the national (parliamentary) elections and referendums of Armenia. That is, those Armenian nationals who have been in Armenia for more than one year out of the last two years—366 days out of the previous 730 days—as of the specified date—48 or 28 days before election day.
The respective amendments were unanimously approved at the special session of the National Assembly of Armenia on Friday, amid a boycott by the parliamentary opposition.
A total of 63 MPs voted in favor of this initiative.
This legislative package was tabled from the parliamentary faction of the ruling Civil Contract party.
