Legendary Armenian Soviet footballer and coach, Olympic champion Nikita Simonyan has died.
Simonyan had marked his 99th birthday on October 12.
The president of Union of Football Veterans of Russia, Aleksandr Mirzoyan, announced the Olympic champion’s death.
“On November 20, Nikita Simonyan was hospitalized due to feeling unwell. Today he passed away,” Mirzoyan said, Match TV reports.
Nikita Simonyan headed Yerevan’s Ararat in 1973–1974, with whom he became USSR champion and cup winner. Also, he worked at Ararat in 1984–1985.
And with Spartak Moscow, he became a four-time USSR champion as a player, and a two-time champion as head coach.
