P.S.

Vasily N. Tatishchev was born into the family of an impoverished and ignoble nobleman, although he came from an ancient family from the Rurikovich, more precisely – from the younger branch of the princes of Smolensk (the clan lost its princely title). Seven years old, he was granted a steward and was taken to the court of Tsar Ivan Alekseevich, with whose wife Praskovya Fedorovna (nee Saltykova) Tatishchevs were related. The court ‘service’ continued until the death of Tsar Ivan Alekseevich in 1696, after which Tatishchev left the court.

Vasily N. Tatishchev was a historian, geographer, economist (industrialist), author of the first major work on history. A detailed description of the geography of Russia ultimately led to the transformation of the work from geographical to historical and the creation of Tatishchev’s ‘Russian History’, where the author pointed out the need for delimitation in Russia, as well as land surveying of the entire state and the composition of detailed geography with land cards. Vasily Tatishchev was also the founder of source studies, an artillery engineer (a participant in combat actions of the Northern War – in the capture of Narva, in the Battle of Poltava, the Prut campaign), a prominent statesman (privy councilor and Astrakhan governor), founder of Stavropol (now Togliatti), Yekaterinburg and Perm. He also improved his education abroad (in Berlin, Breslau, Danzig).
